Obituary

Leo William (“Bill”) Gallagher, 72, formerly of Lunenburg, MA passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, December 6, 2021, at the UMass Medical Center in Worcester, MA. Bill was born on September 22, 1949, in Lawrence, MA to Joseph and Dorothy (Houle) Gallagher and continued to reside in Lawrence, MA for the majority of his life. Together with Edna L. (Manning) Gallagher, they raised two sons, Billy and John-Paul. Mr. Gallagher worked at Digital Equipment Corporation/Compaq for over 20 years in various roles and Xerox for 11 years as a Field Service Technician. Bill was an avid Boston and Notre Dame sports fan, loved playing the card game 45’s, and enjoyed spending time at Salisbury Beach. He had many interests and hobbies throughout his life, but his children and grandchildren were always the primary focus of his affection. His true passion in life was coaching his two sons’ youth sports teams which included South Lawrence West Little League baseball, St. Patrick’s School basketball and street hockey teams, Pop Warner football, and the Lawrence Post 15 Legion Baseball team. Bill loved to spend time with his family, especially his 5 grandchildren whom he absolutely adored: Jackson Gallagher, Avery Gallagher, Maeve Gallagher, Kate Gallagher, and Braeden Delaney. Bill was a permanent fixture at all of their activities and sporting events, regularly traveling as far as Connecticut just to cheer them on during gymnastics meets, baseball, softball, basketball, lacrosse, football, and soccer games. The memories, stories, and life’s moments he leaves behind will be cherished forever by those who loved and knew him. Bill is survived by his sons Billy Gallagher and his wife Michelle of Brooklyn, CT and John-Paul Gallagher, and his wife Carrie of Townsend, MA; brothers Edward Gallagher and his wife Geraldine of Lawrence, MA and Thomas Gallagher of Lawrence, MA; sister Rosemary LeBlanc of Jacksonville, NC; and long-time companion Debbie Callagy-Milton and her daughter Jamie Milton.
