Obituary

WORCESTER/WEBSTER__ Anthony J. “Tony” Wrubel, 84, of Webster and formerly of Worcester, passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2021 in St. Vincent Hospital after becoming ill.

He is survived by his siblings, Dorothy McGlynn (Martinson, Wrubel), Benjamin Wrubel and his wife, Claudette, and Mary Ann Rondeau (Wrubel), all of Worcester; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Rose Gallant

Anthony was born in Worcester, son of the late Edward and Helen T. (Zaleska) Wrubel. Tony never married, but instead spent his life caring for his mother until her passing.

He was a graduate of Worcester Boys Trade High School where he studied Machine Technology. He then went on and worked for 50 years at the Ionic Avenue Worcester Boy’s Club in the maintenance department. He also won many titles as their swimming coach. In 1983, Tony received the Boys & Girls Club of America’s Bronze Keystone and Service Bar. In 2004, he received the Boys & Girls Club of America’s National Service to Youth Award and the 50-year Service Pin. Tony was installed into the Boys and Girls Club of America Hall of Fame.

Anthony or as most called him Tony spent his last couple years living at Christopher Heights of Webster. He was truly blessed to be surrounded by so many caring people who made him part of their family. His family would like to thank everyone from Christopher Heights who touched his heart in many ways.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021 at 10:00am in HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward Street., Worcester. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2021 from 5:00 to 8:00pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the McAuley Nazareth Home for Boys, 77 Mulberry Street, Leicester, MA 01524.
