Obituary

HOLLIS – Gary Wayne McCormick, age 38 passed away December 1, 2021.
He was born in Portland, Maine on April 30, 1983, a son of the late William J. McCormick Jr. and Alice M. (Williams) McCormick. The family lived in Scarborough before moving to Hollis prior to Gary starting school. Gary attended Hollis Elementary School and then graduated from Bonny Eagle High School in 2002.
Gary worked a variety of jobs before settling at the family business of McCormick and Sons Trucking for the majority of his working career. Gary worked hard alongside his brother for many years and could often be found napping in the truck between stops. He made his co-workers laugh and made the work more enjoyable with his carefree ways.
Gary enjoyed sports and played baseball as a child. He was an avid fan of the New England teams including the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, New England Patriots and the Boston Bruins. Gary also enjoyed auto racing and raced a truck at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway when he was younger. Gary liked four-wheeling growing up and also enjoyed driving his motorcycle. Later in life, Gary really enjoyed music and movies. He also liked to sing Karaoke with his trademark song being “I like Big Butts”. He enjoyed hanging out with his friends, having bonfires and listening to music. Barbecuing was one of his favorite activities and you could often see pictures of his masterpieces on Facebook. Gary was always there when pictures were taken whether he was part of the picture or not. It was a rare occasion to see Gary without a smile on his face.
Gary was loved by everyone who knew him or saw him. He was great with children and animals; both of which would gravitate towards him. He once spent hours putting his niece’s hair into tiny ponytails using a large amount of mini colored elastics. To make his niece happy, he let her put his hair into tiny ponytails using the elastics as well. Gary’s children were his world. He could often be found acting silly to make them laugh. He could be found sitting in a plastic kiddie pool or snuggled in a blanket fort depending on what his children wanted to do on any given day. Gary spent a lot of time outdoors with his children playing on playgrounds, going for walks or just playing in the dirt.
Gary is survived by his beloved cat Garfield; children- Hannah Smith, Liam McCormick and Alice McCormick; brother- William (Bill) J. McCormick III and his wife Kayla of Hollis; sister-Lisa (McCormick) Dery of Hollis; and his nieces and nephews-Brandyn Dery, Taylor Dery, William J. McCormick IV and Peyton McCormick.
