Obituary

Maria L. Loudres (Veiga) Quadros, 85, a longtime Lowell resident, passed away Monday, November 29, 2021, at Northwood Health Care Center peacefully in her sleep. She was the beloved wife of Joao Quadros with whom she shared 66 years of marriage.

     A daughter of the late Manuel Espinola Veiga and the late Rosa Augusta (Melo) Veiga, she was born July 21, 1936, in Graciosa, Portugal. She was raised and educated in Graciosa and as a young woman, helped her family with their farm. In 1966, she came to the United States with her family, settling in Lowell’s Back Central Street Neighborhood. She was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church and was a member of the Holy Ghost Society and the Holy Trinity.

      Maria was a gifted seamstress who enjoyed working with her hands. She loved crocheting and sewing. She worked for Pleasant Dress for many years before working for Wang Laboratories prior to her retirement. She valued her family above all and her time spent with them meant the world to her.

      In addition to her beloved husband, Joao, she is survived by her daughter, Maria T. Cunha and her husband, Antonio, of Tewksbury; her son, David V. Quadros and his wife, Lisa, of Hudson, NH; her beloved grandchildren, Anne Borba of Lowell, and Nicole Quadros of Wakefield MA and Alex Quadros of Hudson, NH; her three great grandchildren, Kevin Borba, Katelyn Borba, and Natalie Borba; as well as her 5 great great grandchildren Lucas, Jordan, Ariana, Henry and Arabella; her brother, John Veiga and his wife, Delminda, of Lowell; her sister in law, Argentina Veiga of Lowell; as well as many nieces and nephews throughout the United States.

     She was also a sister of the late Manuel Melo Veiga and the grandmother of the late Michael Cunha.

     All are welcome to attend her calling hours from 2 until 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 5, 2021. On Monday, you are also welcome to attend her funeral, which will begin at 9 a.m. at the MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816.

Her Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Anthony’s Church, 893 Central Street, Lowell at 10 A.M.. Burial to follow at St. Mary Cemetery.
