Gary E. Murphy, 62

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Gary E. Murphy, age 62, of Mansfield, passed away on Monday, November 29, 2021 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Bonnie R. (Fanion) Murphy, to whom he was wed on February 7, 1990.

Born in Attleboro, MA on September 12, 1959, he was a loving son of the late Norman D. and Phyllis J. (Lunn) Murphy.

Gary grew up in Mansfield, was a graduate of Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School and attended Union Carpentry School to receive his certificate as a Union Journeyman Carpenter.

A talented carpenter and cabinet maker, Gary lived in Mansfield for most of his life and also for several years in Pawtucket. He was always happiest being around family and friends and especially with his wife, whether it was dining out or the simple pleasure of day trips to Cape Cod or Plymouth.

Gary was also a car enthusiast and had a special fondness for Dodge cars, Dodge trucks and Ford Mustangs. His hobbies included woodworking, working in his yard, in his garden, country music and playing guitar. He also had a special place in his heart for animals, especially his cat “Licorice” and was devastated at the loss of “Miss Kitty”

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his dear sister Toni M. LaPorte and her husband Todd of Groveland, his devoted uncle Vernon Lunn of Mansfield and was predeceased by his nana and grampy Lunn. He was the brother-in-law of Steven and Jackie Fanion, Jean and Edward Kozatek, Sr., Michael Fanion and Patricia Thurber. He was the uncle of Sarah Fanion and her partner Paige, Edward Kozatek, Jr. and Schelly Maynard. He is also survived by his special friends Arthur, Christopher, David, George and Richard, his dear neighbors Jackie, David, Maranda, DJ and his “little buddy” Kaleb, who he enjoyed spending so much time with.

Services will be private, and burial will take place at a later date at the Spring Brook Cemetery in Mansfield.
