Mary Elizabeth Hutto Barrentine, 85, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Sunday, November 28, 2021, at her niece’s residence in Ambrose, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Lax Community Cemetery, in Irwin County Georgia, with Robert Highsmith and Brad Tucker officiating. Following the graveside services, dinner will be provided in the social hall of the Lax Community Church. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Barrentine was born December 11, 1935, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Willie & Effie Merritt Hutto. She was a 1954 graduate of Ocilla High School and worked for Ocilla Pharmacy, Hellers Sewing and Big Jim’s Discount Seafood. Mrs. Barrentine was of the Holiness faith.
She is survived by two step-children: James Alton Barrentine, III & Alice and Saundra Beasley & Andy, all of Savannah, as well as several step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Annie Hutto of Wray and a brother-in-law, Gerald Stephens of Jesup. She was also a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Alton Barrentine, Jr.; three sisters: Susie Chaney, Frances Craig and Myram Stephens; seven brothers: R.J. Hutto, Vernon Hutto, Ivey Hutto, Josh Hutto, Richard Hutto, Will “Bud” Hutto and Vermie Hutto and three infants.
