Cristina D. (Paulo) Afonso, age 92, formerly of Chicopee, MA, passed away on November 15, 2021 at home in Seminole, FL surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Jan. 22, 1929 in Portugal, a daughter of the late Jose and Herminia (Oliveira) Paulo. Cristina and her late husband, Silvino immigrated to the U.S to be close to extended family and to make a better life for their family. She worked at Spalding and made real estate purchases enabling her and Silvino to co-own Bernadino’s Bakery where they worked until retirement. She enjoyed cooking, traveling and loved her family. They moved to Seminole, FL in 2002 where she enjoyed the warmer climate. She is predeceased by her husband of 73 years, Silvino Afonso, who passed away on Nov. 1, 2020. She leaves one son, Jesse Afonso and his wife Julia of Chicopee; one daughter, Laurie Afonso of Seminole, FL; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike), Tanya (Rob) Steven (Wendy), five great grandchildren, Alex, Avery, Lauren, Tanner and Riley, step granddaughter, Maria Harris (Daryl, many beloved nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her siblings Joaquim Paulo, Jacinto Paulo, Maria Frutuoso, Silvestre Paulo, Laurinda Paulo, Antonio Paulo and Fernando Paulo. Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 29, 2021 from 10:30-11:30 AM at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Assumption Church at 12:00 Noon with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.
