Obituary

Edward V. Lowney, a lifelong Charlestown resident, died suddenly on Sunday, April 16, 2006, at Massachusetts General Hospital. He was 78 years old.

Eddie was born in Boston. He grew up in Charlestown where he attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1944. After high school, Eddie enlisted into the United States Navy and served in the Pacific during WWII. He was discharged in 1946. Eddie joined the Boston Fire Department in 1951 and he served on Engine Companies No. 39 and No. 1. Eddie retired in 1981. Following his retirement, he worked as a driver for Federal Distillers and H.P. Hood Company under Local No. 25 Teamsters Union. Eddie was a member of D.A.V. Chapter No. 22, Boston Fire Fighters Union Local No. 718, Teamsters Union Local No. 25, Charlestown Golden Age Center, The Old Charlestown School Boys Association and the Halligan Club.

Eddie is the beloved husband of the late Geraldine M. (Sullivan) Lowney. He is the devoted father of Karen Lowney of Greenwich, CT, Denise Hanlon and her husband Patrick of Everett, Elaine Savoia and her husband John of Plymouth, and Noreen MacAllister of Dallas, TX. He is the loving grandfather of Lauren and Patrick Hanlon, John and Robert Savoia. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Eddie's Funeral will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2006, from the Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, at 9:00 a.m. followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren Street, Charlestown, at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting Hours for Eddie will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2006, from 4 - 8 p.m. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.

Memorial donations in Eddie's name may be made to the Charlestown Golden Age Center, Main Street, Charlestown, MA 02129.
