Vito Capuano, 86, of Pine Hill Avenue, Johnston, died Saturday at Cherry Hill Manor in Johnston. He was the beloved husband of Adelaide (Tasca) Capuano. They had been married for 56 years.
Born in Johnston, he was a son of the late Joseph & Josephine (D’Ambra) Capuano. He was a lifelong resident of Johnston.
He was a WWII Army Veteran having served in the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe in the 101st Field Artillery Battalion, 76th Infantry Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in connection with military operations in Luxenburg and Germany serving as Executive Officer of a Light Artillery Firing Battery. He also received the Victory Medal, American Theatre Campaign and European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbons.
He was an owner of the former Supreme Poultry and Town Asphalt retiring in 1970. He had also worked for the Town of Johnston for 10 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church and the Town Hall Lanes Bowling Leagues. He loved animals and enjoyed the outdoors especially gardening and growing fruit trees. He was a member of the UCT.
Besides his wife he is survived by a brother Anthony Capuano, Sr. a sister Ida Pezzullo, both of Johnston and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was the brother of the late Joseph & Vincent Capuano and Loretta Donatelli and Ann Azzolina.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 9am from the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Our Lady of Grace Church, George Waterman Avenue, Johnston. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston. Visitation Wednesday 4-7pm.
