Obituary

Arundel, Maine- Helena K. "Nellie" (Kemp) Sweeney, 86, of Arundel, Maine, formerly of Bridgewater, died Thursday in Arundel after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph E. Sweeney.

Born in Bridgewater, she lived her whole life in Bridgewater before moving to Maine 2 years ago.

Mrs. Sweeney was a graduate of Bridgewater High School.

She was an office manager for the McIntire Dairy in Bridgewater for many years.

Mrs. Sweeney was very active in her parish, St. Thomas Aquinas in Bridgewater, where she served as treasurer of the Women's Guild.

She was an avid reader.

She is survived by two daughters, Carol Ann Brown of Arundel, Maine, and Patricia Alberino of North Easton; a son, Daniel Sweeney of Rhode Island; a sister, Ruth Cloutier of Bridgewater; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also sister to the late Thomas and Arthur Kemp and Rita Holmes.

Her funeral will be held from the Prophett Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. (rte. 18), Bridgewater, Wednesday at 8:15 am, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Thomas Aquinas Church at 9 am. Burial in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery.

Visiting hours are Tuesday 5-8 pm.
