Roland A. Girard 89 formerly of George Washington Hwy., in Lincoln died Thursday at the Holiday. He was the husband of the late Marguerite (Belisle) Girard. Mr. Girard was born in Woonsocket a son of the late Napoleon and Augustina (Lamoureux) Girard. Mr. Girard worked for his father in the Black and White Diner before opening Girard’s Diner with his brother Gerald in 1952. He owned and operated the diner for many years, after it’s closing he became the food service supervisor for Zamborano Memorial Hospital. Mr. Girard was a WWII Army veteran. Mr. Girard lived most of his life in Woonsocket before moving to FL in 1982. He retured to this area in 2002.
He is survived by a daughter Suzanne DiGiovanni of Cumberland,and her husband Jerome J. DiGiovanni, a sister Rita Chamberlain of Woonsocket, three grand children and two great grandchildren.
His funeral will be held Tuesday at 9:30 from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 99 Cumberland St. Woonsocket with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 in St. Joseph Church, Mendon Rd. Woonsocket. Burial will be private. Visiting hours are Monday 5-7 pm. In lieu of flowers donations to the Amer. Heart Assoc., N. E. Div. 222 Richmond St. Providence, RI 02903-4253 in his memory would be appreciated.
