Obituary

LOWELL—Rev. Daniel F. Lyddy, 92 years old, a resident of Lowell, died Saturday evening at the Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, after a brief illness.

He was born in Lowell, on May 18, 1910, a son of the late Austin A. and Mary A. (Finnegan) Lyddy. He was graduated from the Sacred Heart grammar School, Lowell High School, Canisius College, in Buffalo, NY, the Oblate Scholasticate, in Washington, DC, and the Oblate Novitiate, House of Philosophy, in Newburgh, NY.

Rev. Lyddy was ordained by Bishop McNamara, on June 12, 1934. He taught at the Oblate Scholasticate, in Ottawa, Ontario, and the Oblate House of Philosophy, in Newburgh, NY.

He joined the Diocese of Ogdensburg, NY, in 1937 and served as Pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Schroon Lake, NY, from 1947 until 1955. From there he went to St. James Church, in Cadyville, NY and served as Pastor from 1955 until 1967. From 1967 until 1975 Rev. Lyddy was the Pastor of St. Martin Church, in Port Leyden, NY, and St. John’s Church, Lyons Falls, NY. He returned to Our Lady of Lourdes, in Schroon Lake in 1975 and remained until his retirement in 1984.

Surviving him are nieces and nephews: Austin A. Lyddy, III., of Port Charlotte, FL; Patricia Nichols, of Lowell; Robert D. Lyddy, of Nashua, NH; Cheryl E. Stafford-Rogers, of Hudson, NH; and Denise M. Lyddy, of Nashua, NH; also many grandnieces, grandnephews, great grandnieces and great grandnephews.

He was the brother of the late Mary Rita Lyddy and Austin A. Lyddy, Jr..

Friends may call from 3 to 8 PM on Tuesday, July 30th, at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). His Funeral Mass to be offered Wednesday morning, July 31st, at 11 AM at the SACRED HEART CHURCH, Lowell. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell.
