Obituary

EMMA ESTELLE (FLEMING) STALEY
November 4, 1922 – November 6, 2021

SACO- Estelle was 99 years of age when God called her to eternal home in heaven. Estelle was born on November 4, 1922 to Gilmer Fleming and Ida (Baker) Fleming of Clintwood, Virginia into a family of 13 children. As an adult, she moved to Arlington, Virginia (D.C. area) and worked as a telephone operator where she met and married her husband, Edward E. Staley.
She is predeceased by her parents and 11 of her 12 siblings. She is survived by her two children, Gerald Staley of Virginia Beach, VA and Patricia Tarbox and her husband, William E. Tarbox of Saco, Maine; two grandchildren – Christine (Tarbox) Jury and her husband, Nathan Jury and Kristina (Staley) MacDonald. She had one great-grandchild, Tyler Jury. She is also survived by her one remaining sibling, her sister, Vivian Gilmer of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Estelle was a dedicated Christian and was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Vienna, VA where she served in many capacities. She worked at several jobs including the Pentagon before becoming Office Manager in the Real Estate Assessment Dept of Fairfax County government for 21 years.
Estelle loved doing needlepoint, crocheting and making quilts. She and her husband, Ed were always looking for ways to help family, friends and even strangers they just met on the street or heard of that need help – even as far away as India. When she retired, she spent a great deal of time researching, writing, and publishing the genealogy of the Fleming and Baker families. She also loved volunteering and serving in her church. In 2007, Ed went home to be with the Lord and Estelle continued to reside in Manassas, VA with her son, Jerry. At the age of 89, she moved to Maine where she lived out her remaining years with her daughter, Patricia and husband, Bill.
Calling hours will be on Wed, November 17, 2021 from 10:00-11:15 at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 at Fairfax Memorial Park where she will be laid to rest next to the love of her life and best friend, Ed.
