Obituary

A loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend to all who surrounded her, Lydia E. Burgos touched every person she met. Lydia was outgoing and vivacious, making friends everywhere she went. She lit up every room she walked into and brought joy to everyone she met. Lydia was a caring and selfless friend to all, an angel on Earth who returned to heaven on November 4, 2021. We will hold her close to our hearts and cherish her memory until we meet again.

Lydia was born in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico to the late Leocadio Burgos and Ramona Fernandez on March 6, 1956. Lydia and her family moved to Boston in 1968. Lydia’s greatest joy was her family and friends. She loved selflessly and unconditionally. She has opened her home to countless family and friends over the years and was always willing to give a helping hand. To meet her once was to love her. Her laughter and joy were infectious. She was the life of the party and enjoyed dancing and wine. Lydia worked as a teacher at Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD) and earned her Associate degree at Roxbury Community College.

Lydia is survived by her husband Ismael Castro, Jr. and her children Jose Luis Burgos, Chantel Castro, Ismael Castro, III, Adrian Castro and nephew Pedro Rios. Grandmother of Jadiel Felipe, Amisael Castro, Janelis Sofia Castro, and Bentley Hunter Castro-Villar.

Lydia is predeceased by her sisters Francisca “Milagros” Burgos and Petra Burgos, and her brothers Rafael “Cayito” Burgos and Daniel Burgos. She is survived by her siblings Carmen “Tita” Colon, Pablo Burgos, Porfirio “Fito” Burgos, Benita Burgos, Rosa Maria Burgos, and Adelicia Burgos. Lydia is also survived by many nieces and nephews that adore her.
