HOLLY A. (NICHOLAS) ROPER, 59, of Hingham, died on Saturday, April 15th at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Roper was born and raised in Weymouth where she graduated from high school. She was a 1968 graduate of Bridgewater State College with her degree in Elementary Education. In 1972 she attained her Master's Degree in Special Education, also from Bridgewater State. Mrs. Roper lived in Plymouth for 10 years before coming to Hingham 25 years ago. She was an elementary school special needs teacher and taught students in Plymouth, then in Hingham and most recently in the Academy Avenue School in Weymouth. She was a member of the Norfolk County Teachers Association, the Massachusetts Teachers Association, a member of the St. Paul's Church choir in Hingham and served on the Board of Overseers of the South Shore Conservatory in Hingham. Mrs. Roper had many interests including gardening, music, boating and especially her 5 grandchildren.
Wife of Joseph C. "Skip" Roper of Hingham, she leaves her daughter, Janet L. Henderson of Southborough and son, Marc J. Roper of Richmond, VA. Daughter of Paul and Louise (Burns) Nicholas of Richmond, VA; and sister of Kathy Davis of Charlottesville, VA, Bruce Nicholas and Paul Nicholas both of Richmond, VA and Nancy Nicholas of Florida. Also survived by her 5 grandchildren; Connor, Kyle and Kevin Henderson of Southborough and Kaitlyn and Emerson Roper of Richmond, VA.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 21st at 10 AM at St. Paul's Church, 147 North St., Hingham Square. Visiting hours and flowers, omitted by request.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the South Shore Conservatory, One Conservatory Dr., Hingham, MA 02043 or to the Trustees of Reservations, 150 Martins Lane, Hingham, MA 02043.
The interment is to be private.
