Obituary

Marty Schecter, who loved sports, Doo Wop music and a good shrimp and lobster sauce (white sauce only!) passed away on Friday evening after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 75.

Mr. Schecter was born in the Bronx, N.Y., and graduated with a degree in Engineering from the City College of New York, the place where he met his wife, Myrna. The story of how he met his future wife is etched into family lore. Marty was trying to get a group of girls aboard a bus to the Catskills from Port Authority, when he spotted a woman in the middle of it all gabbing away and brushing him off. When he persisted, Myrna shoved a bagel in his mouth.

Shortly thereafter, the couple married and settled in the Boston area. They were together for 46 years. Myrna passed away in 2015 of cancer.

Mr. Schecter worked at Raytheon for more than 40 years, building radars and missile systems for the government, and he was on a team that engineered the Patriot Missile used in the Gulf War.

He is survived by his sons B.J. and Todd; daughter-in-law Michelle (Trzcienski); and grandchildren Alexi, David, Evelyn, Paul and Bradley.

A funeral and graveside service will be held on Sunday, October 24th at 12:00 noon at Beit Olam Cemetery, 60 Old Sudbury Rd in Wayland, Mass. For those who cannot attend the funeral, an open house will take place at the Schecter Family home in Lowell from 4:30-7:30.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation of Parkinson’s Research in his memory.
