Obituary

GRADY, William P., II “Butchie” of Westwood passed away peacefully at home on October 22, 2021, surrounded by his family. He died from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease. 

Bill Grady was the founder and administrator of the “Opportunity for Change” program for at-risk students at Brookline High School, where he worked from 1977-2006. Previous to that, he worked as a licensed electrician at MIT, MGH, and a private company. He also taught non-traditional occupations for women at the Boston YWCA for two years from 1975-77. He received the Sperber Award for Administrative Leadership from Brandeis University in 2001.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rose H. Grady, a daughter Denise M. Devaney of Westwood, her husband Joseph, and grandchildren Sydney, Joseph, and Patrick; a son Robert W. Grady of Providence, RI and his wife Linnea Carlson; sisters Kathleen Grady and Geraldine McTomney and brother-in-law John McTomney; brother Harry Grady; nieces and nephews Barry DeFranco, Steve McTomney, Robin McTomney, William McTomney, Michael Grady, Lisa McKeon, Michelle Leonard, Jean Burnand, and William Carew; and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He is predeceased by his parents William P. Grady and Geraldine (McGowan) Grady, his sisters Peggy Carew and Verna DeFranco, sister-in-law Joanne Grady, and brother-in-law John Agundez.

Visiting hours will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., Dedham on Wednesday, Oct. 27 from 4-8pm. His funeral will take place from the funeral home on Thursday, Oct. 28 at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Denis Church, Westwood at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Private interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in William’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452.
