Our beautiful mother, sister, aunt, friend and mentor, Maria L. Roman, passed away on Saturday October 16th, 2021.
Born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Luis Roman and Gabriela Roman. Maria leaves behind her sister Nereida Roman and husband Enrique Rosario, her partner Lydia Morales and three beloved sons, Luis Cortes, Javier Cortes and daughter-in-law Lisa Medeiros, Joel Cortes and wife Corinne Cortes.
Maria was a devoted grandmother to Xavier Cortes, Jaylanee Cortes, Luis Cortes Jr., Phelisity Cortes, Yanaira Cortes, Javier Cortes Jr., Avant Cortes, Ty Cortes, Joel “Jojo” Cortes and Cora Cortes, as well as great grandmother to Giselle Daniels, Isabella Daniels and Luna Gomes.
Maria spent her life devoted to her family. She loved to gather and celebrate, listen to her favorite salsa and merengue, and play on her bongo’s and dance with her boys. She was an amazing cook and loved to spoil her family with delicious Spanish dishes.
Maria was pre-deceased by her beloved sister Rosaura Roman.

Her visitation will be Thursday, October 21st, from 4-6PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, with a service at 6PM.
