Obituary


James "Jim" Coots Sr, 68, of East Bridgewater passed away Tuesday October 12 after a period of failing health.

Known to his good friends as "Chief," he was a lifetime resident of East Bridgewater, and was the son of Nellie (Hogg) Coots, and Frederick Coots.

He attended Bristol County Agricultural School, and held a variety careers: Peaceful Meadows Farm, fire fighter for the town of East Bridgewater, and eventually started "Coots Brothers Inc," with his brother David.

Jim enjoyed singing and was once a Square Dance Caller at locations all over the South Shore. He was a Lifetime member of the East Bridgewater Commercial Club, enjoyed nature and the outdoors and spent many summers on his boat on Sampson's Pond in Carver. Most recently he created a vegetable garden with his children and grandchildren.

Jim was predeceased by his precious sons, Ryan and James Jr. "Jay." He leaves behind his former spouse, Susan (Payton) Coots, son Benjamin, longtime companion Kelly Lopes, their daughter, Casey, and his grandchildren Jayden, Tyler, and Kayleana. He will be greatly missed by brothers Frederick Coots, his wife Marie; William Coots, his wife Lesley; David Coots and Lynne; and Paul Coots and Patty.

Family and friends are invited to attend his visiting hours on Tuesday October 19 from 10AM – 12PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street Whitman, followed by a funeral service at 12PM. Burial will be in the Northville Cemetery, East Bridgewater.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either "The Coots Grandchildren Memorial Fund" or "The Casey Coots Memorial Fund" at Bluestone Bank, 29 Bedford Street; East Bridgewater MA 02333.
