Obituary

SPENCER: Diane N. (St.John) Cyr, 72, of Spencer, passed away in her home on Thursday, October 7, 2021 in the loving care of her family and friends. Eight years ago, Diane was diagnosed with appendiceal cancer with a grim prognosis. With a strong will, extreme love for her grandchildren, and an amazing oncology team at Dana-Farber, she embraced every year.

She leaves her husband of 50 years, Robert J. Cyr, her daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth and Justin DeCelle of Spencer, her son Michael R. Cyr of Hawaii, her brothers Pierre St. John and his wife Carol of Spencer, and Arthur St. John of North Carolina. Five grandchildren; Katherine and Rebecca Cyr, Myrah, Allison and Hannah Decelle, a sister-in-law Donna Cyr of Auburn, a brother-in-law David Cyr and his wife Betty of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, nieces, and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister Elaine Lamoureux and her grandson Benjamin Cyr.

She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Abraham and Naomi (Letiecq) St. John later graduated from David Prouty High School in Spencer and completed her RN certificate from Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing.

Diane was a registered nurse in the head trauma dept. of the Greenery Rehabilitation Center in Worcester for 25 years. After retirement in 2005, she worked at The Meadows of Leicester and Overlook Nursing Home in Charlton. She was a member of Mary, Queen of the Rosary Parish in Spencer.

Diane did a lot of traveling in her retirement years with her husband and many dear friends. They traveled to Italy, France, and Ireland with many memories to share. However, the place that was most treasured was (The Home Away from Home) in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She enjoyed walking the beach in the early morning hours, playing with pails and shovels beside the grandchild during the day, and having cocktails watching the beautiful sunsets with friends and family on the deck in the evening.

Diane's most happiness came from the simple gifts in her life, her grandchildren. Each one had an exceptional place in her heart. Her home was always a welcoming and comforting place for them. This is what gave her determination to fight her illness. She was always positive and had a contagious smile. Everyone that was fortunate to know Diane felt that they were special in their own way.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 19 from J. HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 7 Church Street, Spencer.
