Jeanne L. Cooke, 98, of Hampstead, NH, died Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at the Parkland Medical Center in Derry, NH. She was born in Mclean, IL on December 13, 1922, a daughter of Louis and Gladys (Sperry) Morin. Following her schooling, Jeanne worked for 15 years in Illinois and for Hale Hospital in Haverhill, MA for 30 years as a registered nurse. After retiring in 1984, she continued to work as a hospital volunteer for many years. She enjoyed playing and teaching Marimba, in addition to singing in the church choir. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Warren S. Cooke, in 2012.
While living in Illinois, Jeanne was a member of the Marimba Orchestra in Chicago. After moving to New Hampshire, Jeanne was very active in her community, in addition to working and raising 3 children. She was a past chair member of the Hampstead Mother's Club, Massachusetts Nurses Association, founded Hospital Employee Health Nurses Association of New England, member of Hampstead Congregational Church since 1960, and formed a social group of friends called Magicals. Jeanne and Warren loved camping with their family, spent winters in Escapee Park in Florida, and RV’d extensively throughout the United States following retirement in 1984.
Jeanne is survived by two daughters Jean Anne Hunt and her husband Bob formerly of Hillsboro, NH; Susan Cooke of Hampstead, NH; son, Roger Cooke and his wife Kara of Ripon, WI; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter; four nieces, and six grandnieces and grandnephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021, from 4:00pm to 5:30pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry, NH with a service to follow at 5:30pm. Following cremation, private burial will be in West Hampstead Cemetery, Off Rt. 121, Hampstead, NH. Face masks are recommended for those who are not fully vaccinated. Memorial contributions may be made to Hampstead Congressional Church, 61 Main St, Hampstead, NH 03841 in lieu of flowers
