Obituary

Arthur Patrick Mooney, (known as “Pat”), 89, of Truro, Boston, MA and Newport, RI passed away on September 20, 2021 at Cape Cod Hospital following a brief illness.

Pat was born on March 17, 1932 in Truro, MA to Agnes Mooney (Joseph) and Francis J. Mooney. He grew up primarily with his mother and 5 siblings in Truro as his father passed away when he was a young boy. He attended Provincetown High School where he played on the school’s football team but apparently lacked enthusiasm for his studies. He went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps from 1950 to 1953 achieving the rank of sergeant. He was stationed in Korea with the First Marine Division participating in three major battles as a forward artillery leader for a 155-millimeter Howitzer Battery.

After his military service, Pat attended Newman Preparatory School in Boston. He went on to attend Boston College graduating in 1958. He was a well-known and well-respected member of the equity trading community in Boston for many years. Pat’s final position was as Vice President of Institutional Trading for First Albany. While living in Boston, he met Mary Mooney (Walsh) a fellow Boston College Alumnus and they married in 1989. The couple later divorced but remained good friends. In his “hey-day,” Pat loved a good scotch and a good cigar. He always loved a good cup of coffee. He especially loved to golf and enjoyed many trips abroad golfing as part of a group of colleagues and friends called “The Famous Grouse Club.”

Pat was fiercely loyal and generous to his friends and family. He faithfully attended family events and gatherings regardless of what amount of travel was required. He always wanted to help in any way that he could. His twinkling blue eyes belied a playful prankster who was often quite a handful in his youth and beyond. He was independent, hilarious and a gentleman to the last. The relationships Pat developed over the years were longstanding. They are a testament to his loyalty, sense of respect, honor and comradery. He will be sorely missed.

He is survived by brother, George (Malcolm) Mooney (married to Janet Mooney) of Truro, MA. In addition to his brother George and sister-in-law Janet, Pat leaves behind a far-flung but tightly-knit family including his sister-in-law, Carol Mooney also of Truro, 11 nieces and nephews, a slew of great nieces and nephews and many dear friends. He is predeceased by his brothers Francis Mooney and Denis Mooney of Truro and his sisters Marguerite Krumpelbeck of West Islip, New York and Dolores Rose of Truro.

Family and friends are invited to a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 11 Prince St., Provincetown, MA at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2021. Burial with Military Honors will be in Truro and a fellowship to celebrate Pat’s life will follow.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Pat’s honor to a charity of your choice.
