Obituary

Michael D. Moloney, age 62 of Lowell, passed away after complications from surgery on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

He was born on June 15, 1959 in Lowell and was a son of the late John J. Moloney, II and the late Mary (Boyle) Moloney. He was raised in Lowell, where he attended the area schools graduating from Lowell High School with the Class of 1977.

Michael was a man of strong faith and was a devoted member of Trinity Evangelical Church in North Reading. He was a giving man and spent time volunteering at the Place of Promise in Lowell. He had a voracious appetite for many things; loved sports, working, his faith and his family. He worked as a credit analyst with Heilind Electronics, Inc in Wilmington for the past 6 years.

Michael is survived by his beloved fiancé, Bonnie Michaud of Lowell; his four children, Brian F. Hersey of Gloucester, MA, Daniel W. Hersey of Hudson, NH, Anthony Hersey of Merrimack, NH, and Serenity Moloney of Lowell; his grandchildren, Brynn and Tracy Abdallah and his stepsons, Christopher and Kyle Gamelin.

He is also survived by his brothers, John Moloney and his wife, Pamela of Dracut, and Bill Moloney of Lowell; his sister in law, Robin Moloney of Lowell; his nieces and nephews, Erin Thielo and her husband, Felix, David Moloney and his wife, Leah, Michael Moloney, Joseph Moloney and his wife, Allison, John Moloney IV, Ryan Moloney, Kelly Moloney, Patrick Moloney and his wife, Julianne, and Kevin Moloney; and many grandnieces and grandnephews including Ava, Oliver, and Emma Thielo, and May and Cal Moloney. He also leaves behind many friends including his closest friend, John Matthews of Roslindale.

Michael was predeceased by his sister, the late Judith Moloney and his brother, the late Ricky Moloney.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael’s memory may be made to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Trinity Evangelical Church, 105 Haverhill Street, N. Reading, MA 01864.

On Tuesday, October 12, 2021, all are welcome to attend his calling hours from 4-7 p.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell 978-458-6816.

His funeral will take place on Wednesday, October 13 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Church, 105 Haverhill Street, N. Reading, MA. Please meet directly at the church. Procession will follow for burial at St. Patrick Cemetery in Lowell.
