Obituary

FLORENCE – Michael A. Megazzini, 65, of Florence, devoted son and beloved brother, passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2021. He was born in Springfield on April 26, 1956, son of the late Primo L. and Marian T. (Hickson) Megazzini. He was raised in Springfield, graduated from Classical High School in Springfield and had lived in Ludlow and Springfield before moving to the Northampton area where he lived for many years. Between 2012 and 2017 he lovingly cared for his elderly mother during her last years. He was an incredibly talented carpenter, skilled hunter, and avid outdoorsman. He spent many years working as a hunting guide in upstate New York. He enjoyed spending time outdoors whether hunting, fishing, skiing, biking or walking. He was genuinely kind, funny, light-hearted, and loved by all who knew him. He leaves his six loving brothers and sisters, Jodi T. Adams and her husband, John, of Shrewsbury, Paula J. Fitzgerald and her husband, James, of Springfield, David F. Megazzini and his wife, Lois, of Chicopee, Peter J. Megazzini of Ellijay, GA, Karen M. Megazzini and her husband, Robb Reed, of Crosslake, MN and Sheila A. Rivera and her husband, Edward, of Westfield; and his many cherished nieces and nephews (P.J., Jaci, Jenny, Christopher, Alan, Rick, Brian, Keith, Scott, Nikki, Cruz, Piper and Sammi) as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members and close friends. If he was reading this, he’d likely say, “That’s already too long, wrap it up”, so we will. His family will host and welcome friends to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church, 47 Pine Street, West Springfield, MA 01089. Family will greet guests at the church beginning at 10:30 a.m. His Burial will follow the Mass at Saint Thomas Cemetery, 420 Kings Highway, West Springfield, MA 01089. Casual dress. There are no visiting hours. The St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107 is assisting his family.
