Obituary

CHICOPEE – Pauline M. (Dion) Champagne, 86, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, October 4, 2021. She passed into Eternal Life at the Holyoke Health Care Center in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Drummondville, Province of Quebec, Canada on April 24, 1935, a beloved daughter of the late Raoul and Anita (Hardy) Dion. She was raised and educated in Drummondville and immigrated to Holyoke in 1956. She later moved to Fairview in 1966 where she lived the remainder of her life. She was employed as an assistant cook for the Chicopee School Department. She was a former communicant of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church and currently was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church, both in Chicopee. She played hockey with the Chicopee Chicks and was known as “Shifty Champagne” and enjoyed playing softball and tennis. She was a member of the Pioneer Valley Chapter 8 Camping Association. She and her husband enjoyed being summer residents of Hampton Beach for over 35 years. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She leaves her beloved husband and soul mate, Lucien Champagne. They were married at Saint Joseph Church in Drummondville, P.Q., Canada on June 11, 1955 and were blessed with over 66 years of happiness together. She also leaves her three devoted children, Carole L. Cote and her husband, David, of Granby, Dennis G. Champagne and his wife, Sally, of Southampton and Alan D. Champagne and his fiancée, Kari Trombley, of Granby; her five cherished grandchildren, Danielle Cote, Nicholas and Jason Champagne and Megan and Natalie Champagne; her three dear brothers, Andre Dion and his wife, Julie, of Chicopee, Rene Dion of Belchertown and his wife, Ginette, of Drummondville and Pierre Dion and his wife, Gail, of Holyoke; her two dear sisters, Jeannine Pepin and her husband, Robert, of Drummondville, Canada and Nicole Laliberte and her husband, Emile, of Granby; her five dear sisters-in-law, Monique Dion of Broad Brook, CT and Helene Dion, Agnes Dion, and Lisa Champagne, all of Chicopee, and Denise Lecler and her husband, John, of Quebec, Canada; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her five dear brothers, Roger, Gilles, Claude, Denis, and Yvon Dion; her six dear sisters, Marcelle Gervais, Gisele Huard, Pierrette L’Heureux and her husband, Gaston, Huguette Cheney and her husband, Camile, Denise Kovalchick and her husband, Jake, and Michelle Dion; and her dear brother-in-law, Marcel Champagne. Her Funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, October 11, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
