Obituary

Arthur P. Fruh, 76, of Franklin, passed away suddenly, at his home, Wednesday September 29, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Gayle F. Logan, with whom he shared 20 years of marriage. Born June 14, 1945 in New York, New York a son of the late Phillip and Elizabeth (Jung) Fruh, he was a former resident of Queens, New York and North Reading, MA before moving to Franklin.

He was raised and educated in New York, was a graduate of New York University where he received his bachelor’s degree in engineering. Arthur was a software engineer for Raytheon until retiring.

As a proud American he served in the United States Army. He earned the rank of 1st Lieutenant and was awarded the National Defense Medal. He was honorably discharged in February 1973.

Art loved his entire family making special memories and moments with each of them. He was fascinated by engineering, space, science and computers. He made those around him see the world through his curious, intelligent, and analytical mind, and his family learned from him and his passion to explore the wonder of the universe. He was always mastering new technology whether at work or home. His aptitude for engineering meant he liked the challenge of problem solving and drawing up plans to build or repair many items over his lifetime. His family appreciated his passion for his interests and the excellent results of his projects.

Art learned how to bake from his parents, aunts and uncles who owned a bakery in Queens. His world-renown apple pie always made every celebration more delightful. His children and grandchildren loved his pancakes and eggs in the morning after staying over. After his love for exploration and his family, came his passion for golf. He was so joyful discussing his latest round, especially when he played well, and he usually ranked high in competitions. His crowning golf achievement was a Hole-in-One.

Art loved the outdoors, and this included playing on the fitness challenge equipment during one particular walk. He was a pilot, a woodworker, a grill master, a skier, a hiker, raced cars, practiced tai chi and so much more. After Art retired, he volunteered at a local food pantry and enjoyed more time for his many interests. Art grew up a proud New Yorker and loved to visit the city. Most of all, he was a remarkable man who was smart and kind, funny and serious, reliable and flexible, loving and passionate. He was open to new ideas and opportunities while also having strong beliefs. He is our husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He meant so much to all of his family and had a beautiful and abundant life. We were honored to be his family. We will always love him, and we will cherish our memories and the time that we had him with us and that we had with him. Art loved and was loved.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Shawn Fruh (Alison), Victoria Fruh (Curtis), step children, Curtis Winn (Mary), Shannon Winn (Steve), Kaitlin Murphy, and a brother Dennis Fruh. He was the brother of the late Herbert Fruh, and his wife, Virginia. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Amelia, Alex, Jared, Julia & Abigayle.

His funeral service will be held privately at the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home, followed by a burial with military honors at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA on October 7, 2021.
