Obituary

Bill Baine, fondly called “Coach,” passed away September 28, 2021, from complications of Alzheimer’s at Hilton Head Hospital, South Carolina.

Bill was born in Brookline, MA to the late Neva (Ready) and John R. Baine and grew up in Weston, MA. He graduated from Weston High School in 1966 and from Elon College (now Elon University) in 1974 with a BA in Physical Education and Health.

Bill had his own house painting business and coached football and basketball at Lincoln-Sudbury High School in Sudbury, MA for many years before moving to Cumming, GA in 1990. There he taught PE and Health and coached football, basketball and golf at South Forsyth High School for 20 years, before moving to Shiloh Point Elementary where he retired in 2015.

Bill leaves behind his wife of 44 years, Kathleen (Northrup) Baine, whom he met at Elon. They have two daughters: Samantha Elizabeth Baine of Pittsburgh, PA and Meredith (Baine) VanMeeteren (Jason) of Cheyenne, WY, and two wonderful grandchildren, Arthur and Neva VanMeeteren.

Bill’s love for Boston sports (Bruins, Patriots, Celtics, and Red Sox) and golf is only surpassed by love for his family and friends. He also leaves behind two sisters: Neva (Baine) Murphy of Peabody, MA and Jacqueline (Baine) Keeley (Edmund) of Hilton Head Island, SC. Nieces and nephews include Patrick (Susan) Murphy of North Reading, MA; Neva Murphy of Newton, MA; John Murphy (Kelly) of New Canaan, CT; Katherine Staehly (Claude) of Wellesley, MA; Michael (Ali) of Windsor, CT; Karen Keeley (Scott Wright) of Hilton Head Island, SC; Brian Keeley (Christine) of Winterport, ME; Kimberly Keeley (Joe Ribata) of Norwalk, CT; Deena (Ronald) Feyerabend of Ballground, GA; Kimberly (Northrup) Bratley (Michael) of Virginia Beach, VA; and Christopher Northrup (Michelle) of Virginia Beach, VA.

On Saturday, October 16, 2021, there will be visitation at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington Street, Wellesley, MA, beginning at 11 a.m. with a prayer service to follow at 11:30. Interment will take place afterwards in the family plot at Linwood Cemetery in Weston, MA. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Alzheimer’s Research - act.alz.org/site/Donation.
