Ann Marcia (Regan) Sousa, 90, a longtime Chelmsford resident, passed peacefully Thursday, September 30, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Michael Sousa, with whom she would have celebrated their sixty first wedding anniversary this coming November.
A daughter of the late Joseph and the late Ruby (McCarthy) Regan, she was born November 15, 1930 in Lowell, attended Sacred Heart Grammar School and graduated from The Academy of Notre Dame with the Class of 1948, and Lowell State Teachers College with the class 1953. She then attained her Masters Degree in Teaching from Fitchburg State College.
Ann was a loving and affectionate wife, mother, and grandmother, and always enjoyed spending time with her family especially when it involved the grandchildren. She loved tending to her house and was a great hostess whom always enjoyed entertaining guests. In addition, she enjoyed traveling and she was also one of ‘The Girls from Sacred Heart’.
Mrs. Sousa taught at the Shaughnessy Elementary School in Lowell for Forty years prior to her retirement in 1993 and will be fondly remembered by the many students she inspired. She made her home in Chelmsford with her family and was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Chelmsford.
Her survivors include her loving husband, Michael ‘Mickey’ Sousa; her children, Michael Sousa and his wife, Constance of Chelmsford, Thomas Sousa and his wife, Aimee of Chelmsford, and Marianne Sousa and her husband, Jonathan Smith of Lowell; her eleven grandchildren, Robert Sousa and his wife, Traci, Joseph Sousa and his Fiancee, Anne Fyffe, Michael Sousa, Allen Sousa, Daniel Sousa, Emilee Sousa, Rebecca Sousa, Caden Smith, Breandan Smith, Dylan Smith, and Rhys Smith. She is also susrvived by her in laws, Dolores Regan and Leslie Regan, John Sousa and his wife, Edith, Isabelle McGonigle, and James Sousa and his wife, Ruth; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was predeceased by her siblings, the late Robert Regan, the late Allen Regan, and the late Nancy Regan Stott; and she was a sister in law of the late Mary Roddy, the late Albert Sousa, the late Manuel Sousa, the late Aurelia (Jeanne) Sousa, the late Anthony Sousa, the late Clarice Sousa, the late Alfred Sousa, and the late Angeline Sousa.
On Monday, October 4, 2021, all are welcome to attend her calling hours from 4-7 p.m. at MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL, MA 978-458-6816.
Her funeral will take place on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by her funeral mass at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 25 North Road, Chelmsford, MA. Burial will take place at Pine Ridge Cemetery in Chelmsford.
