Obituary

CHICOPEE – Charlotte L. (Sampson) Jacques, 70, of the Sandy Hill section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, October 1, 2021. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Westfield on December 15, 1950, a beloved daughter of the late Charles W. and Betty Lou (Longstreth) Sampson. She was raised in Westfield and graduated from Westfield High School. She later moved to Chicopee in 1973 where she lived the remainder of her life. She furthered her education and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Westfield State College. She was employed with the Chicopee School Department as a Kindergarten Teacher for over 20 years, mainly at Anna E. Barry Elementary School, and was proud to have been the recipient of the Grinspoon Excellence in Teaching Award. She was a former communicant of Saint Patrick Church and currently was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church, both in Chicopee. During her leisure time, she enjoyed hiking, bird watching and visiting the ocean. Above all, she loved spending time with her family. Her greatest joy was being “Meme” to her four granddaughters. Sharing traditions, creating artistic masterpieces together, and having sleepovers were just a few of the memories made. She leaves her beloved husband, soul mate, and the man who always reached for her hand, Edward J. Jacques. They were married on June 16, 1973 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Westfield and were blessed with over 48 years of happiness together. She also leaves her two loving children, Edward J. Jacques, Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Chicopee and Jennifer J. McElroy and her husband, Kenneth, of Westfield; her four cherished granddaughters, Anna and Ella Jacques and Evie and Aniela McElroy; her dear sister, Bonnie Collins of Chicopee; and her many dear extended family members and friends. Her Funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Committal Service will follow the Mass at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, October 4, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
