Angelina ‘Ita’ Rivera

LOWELL Angelina ‘Ita’ Rivera, 76 of Lowell, passed away after a period of declining health on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington. She was the widow of the late Julian Colon Sr. who passed away in 1976.

She was born on February 15, 1945 in Aibonito, Puerto Rico and was a daughter of the late Pablo Rivera and the late Epifania (Torres) Rivera. She was raised and educated in Puerto Rico.

At the age of 19, Angelina relocated to Massachusetts, settling in Lowell. She was employed as a factory worker at Prince Packaging for many years before her retirement. She was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Lowell. She was a talented sewer and also enjoyed crocheting. Over the years she made many things without the aid of patterns. She enjoyed spending time playing cards, dominos and bingo. She also enjoyed traveling and was an avid baseball fan, especially for the Boston Red Sox.

Angelina is survived by her three children, Julian Colon and his wife, Teresa A. of Sanford, ME, Madeline Colon-Rivera and her husband, Samuel Melendez of Lowell, and Jose A. Colon and his wife, Geraldyne of Lowell; her grandchildren, Jonathan C. Colon, Melanie E. Colon, Alyssa M. Colon, Kristina M. Colon, Julian Michael Colon, Angelina V. Melendez, and Alberto J. Rodriguez. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Jayce B. Colon, Angela T. Colon, Amelia J. Colon, Isaac J. Colon, Cheyenne H. Colon, Josiah J. Mejias, Julianna M. Mejias, and Noah A. Fletcher; her sisters, Rosaura Rivera of Lowell, Carmen Rivera of Lowell; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Carmen T. Colon-Rivera; mother in law of the late Roberto Rodriguez; and sister of the late Dolores Rivera, the late Clemencia Marquez, the late Pablo Rivera-Torres, and the late Maria DeLourdes Rivera.
