Albert F. Rocco, MD, 86, formerly of Coolridge Avenue, Greenville, Chief of Radiology at the former Fogarty Memorial Hospital in North Smithfield before retiring in 1983, died Monday at Miriam Hospital. He was the husband of Harriet J. (Ritter) Rocco. They were married for 60 years.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Giovanni and Domenica (Mastrangelo) Rocco. He was a resident of Greenville for 47 years.
He was an Air Force Veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of LaSalle Academy, RI College of Pharmacy and the University of Oklahoma Medical School. He interned at Roger Williams Hospital. He was a Fellow of the American College of Radiology. He was a member of the AMA, New England Roentgen Ray Society, the Radiological Society of North America and the Malpighi Medical Society. He was a former Providence Deputy Police Sergeant, a former member of the Smithfield Lions and the Smithfield Sportsmen’s Club. He was a founding member of the Smithfield Boys Club and was a supporter of the Boy Scouts.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Allen F. Rocco, DDS of Providence, Christina J. Caldwell of Burrillville, Constance B. Chaffee of South Berwick, Maine, and Stephen J. Rocco of Greenville, and eight grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Frank J. Rocco.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 8:30am from the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Prayer of Final Commendation at 9:30am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Burial in Highland Memorial Park. Visitation Wednesday 4-8pm.
