Obituary

Rosa E. (Gomes) da Silva, 93, of Lowell, passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at Lowell General Hospital after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio da Silva, who died in 2011 after fifty nine years of marriage.

A daughter of the late Francisco V. Gomes and the late Rosa (Amilia) Gomes, she was born August 30, 1928, in Terceira, Azores, Portugal and was raised and educated in that area. In 1965, she moved to the United States following her husband, Antonio, who came before her to make their home in Lowell’s Back Central Street Neighborhood where they raised their family.
Rosa was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church and was a talented seamstress, having worked for over twenty five years in several of the local textile shops. She retired from Joan Fabrics in 1990.

She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and she loved when her children and their children gathered for dinners, holidays, and special events. In addition, she enjoyed gardening and always showed her passion for sewing throughout her home and for her family.

Her survivors include her sons, Francisco da Silva and his wife, Colleen, of Methuen and Antonio G. daSilva and his wife, Cynthia, of Lowell; her beloved grandchildren, Julia da Silva and her husband, Andrew Rahmberg, of Maryland, Gail Lollis of Andover; Emma daSilva of Lowell, and Sean daSilva of Lowell; her great-grandchildren, Connor and Ivy Lollis, both of Andover; her sister,Teresa Viera; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Maria DeSousa and Palmira Flores; her brothers, Frank Gomes and Antonio Gomes; and her brother- and sister-in-law, John and Niveria DaSilva.

Masks will be required at the request of the family. All are welcome to attend her visitation from 4 until 7 p.m. on Friday, September 24.

On Saturday, her funeral will begin at 9 A.M. at the McDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 Highland Street, Lowell 978-458-6816. Her Funeral Mass will be offered at ST. ANTHONY’S CHURCH, 893 Central Street, Lowell at 10 A.M.. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery.

Rosa lived at the Saab Residence in her final years, where the staff provided loving, attentive care. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Saab Residence Foundation. Gifts may be sent to Saab Residence, 1085 Varnum Ave., Lowell MA 01854, attn: Candace Walker.
