Obituary

Robert W. “Bob” Chaudoin, 90, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at Palemon Gaskins Memorial Nursing Home in Ocilla, Georgia.

Graveside services will be held 2 PM, Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Charlie Solomon officiating. The family will greet friends after the services at the graveside. Due to COVID-19, all guests and attendees are requested to wear appropriate medical grade facemasks and to maintain social distancing at all times.

Mr. Chaudoin was born June 20, 1931, in Alachua County, Florida to the late Howard Lee & Thelma Estelle Thomas Chaudoin. He graduated from Titusville High School in 1949 and later graduated from Bible Baptist Institute in Florida in 1952. Mr. Chaudoin graduated from Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee in 1956, majoring in History and double-minoring in Psychology and Sociology. He would later earn his Bachelors of Divinity in theology and biblical studies in 1959 from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana. Bro. Bob pastored numerous churches including: Enon Baptist Church in Camden, Alabama, Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Moultrie, Omega Baptist Church in Omega, Arbor Baptist Church, New Prospect Baptist Church, Salem Baptist Church, and Westside Baptist Church, all in Fitzgerald, Blockhouse Baptist Church in Jacksonville as well as numerous interim pastorates. He also served as chaplain for Blue-Gray Community Hospice and retired from the ministry in 2012. Mr. Chaudoin worked as supervisor at Fleetwood Mobile Homes in Douglas and Pearson and also substituted in the Ben Hill County School System for numerous years. He enjoyed gardening, such as growing flowers and vegetables, taxidermy, carpentry, bee keeping, quail raising and hunting. He loved animals and nature. Mr. Chaudoin is famous to his family and friends for tomatoes from his garden and his homemade strawberry jam. He dearly loved his family, was an avid reader, and enjoyed being outdoors. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church, but regularly attended First Baptist Church as long as he was able.

He is survived by two sons: Steve Chaudoin & Jenne of Atlanta and Larry Chaudoin & Sandra of LaGrange; a daughter, Beverly Gunter & Brian of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Stephen Chaudoin & Sarah, Leslie McNeal & Nick, Clint Chaudoin & Clarissa, Brandelyn House & Charles and Benjamin Gunter & Sara; great-grandchildren: Lydia Chaudoin, Cora Chaudoin, Addi McNeal, Evie McNeal, Cooper Chaudoin, Camille Chaudoin, Weston House, Wilson House, Sullivan Gunter and Isabella Gunter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister; a brother; and the mother of his children, Helen Prevatte Chaudoin.
