Salem: Theresa L. (Gauthier) Smyrnios age 88 of Salem, died Monday at the Shaughnessy Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital in Salem following a brief illness.
Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Elie and Florence (Cote) Gauthier. As a young woman she worked as a waitress for several establishments in Peabody. She left waitress work to work for several shoe manufacturing companies in the greater Salem area. She also operated her own dressmaking and alterations shop in Salem for several years. In the late 1950’s, Terry moved to New York, and she returned to Salem in the early 1960’s when she began working for the former Almy’s Warehouse at Shetland Park in Salem.
She is survived by a son: Arthur J. Smyrnios and his wife Deardra of Salem, a granddaughter: Kelly Casali and her husband Frank of Odessa, FL, also several nieces and nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews. She was predeceased by 2 sisters: Jeannette A. Gauthier & Blanche Marley, and 2 brothers: Paul & Roland Gauthier.
Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral service on Thursday afternoon at 1 pm. in the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St., Salem [Rt. 114 / 1-A]. Visiting hours will precede her service from 11 am to 1 pm
