Eleanor Lucille Lastinger DeBerry, 90, of Tifton passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at her residence. Her funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., September 23, 2021, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mrs. DeBerry’s son, Ken DeBerry, will offer a eulogy. Mrs. DeBerry will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 23, 2021, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of the service.
Mrs. DeBerry’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Born May 3, 1931, in Tift County, Mrs. DeBerry was the daughter of the late Clarence “C. O.” Lastinger and Bessie Lee Benefield Lastinger. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Maxwell DeBerry, who she married on August 18, 1951; two brothers, William Clarence “W. C.” Lastinger and Bobby Eugene Lastinger; two sisters, Martha Joyce Lastinger and Betty Sue Jones; two nieces, Debbie Lastinger Webb and Karen Williams Ivester; and one nephew, Billy Jones. Eleanor was a lifelong resident of Tift County and a graduate of Tifton High School. Eleanor and Charles resided in Irwin County their first years of marriage. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. In her early years, she was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and was then a member of Springhill Baptist Church for 25 years. She last attended Tift Avenue Baptist Church.
Mrs. DeBerry is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Terry DeBerry of Tifton and Kenny and Judy DeBerry of Bridgeboro; two daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia and Wayne Walker of Lenox and Sharron Kay DeBerry of Tifton; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Craig (Wanda) Phillips, Kayse Phillips Layfield, Amber (Ben) Hudson, Justin (Mary Charles) DeBerry, Chris Walker (Jeremy), Jason (Leigh Ann) Walker, Jason DeBerry (Tiffany), Amanda DeBerry and Brian DeBerry; fifteen great-grandchildren, Blake Layfield, Jaden Layfield, Bryce Phillips, Cam Hudson, Case Hudson, Fern DeBerry, Colson Hudson, Kason Walker, Hadleigh Walker, Avery Walker, Nate DeBerry, Amelia DeBerry, Lexi Cagle DeBerry, J. J. DeBerry and Ava DeBerry; two nephews, Michael Holloway and Bobby Jones; and two great-nieces, Brandi Vaughn Massey and Mandee Chavers.
