Obituary

WESTBOROUGH: Carlene Edith (Kelton ) Swindell, 79, passed away on September 17, 2021surrounded by her loved ones after a brave thirty-five year battle with cancer.
She was born in Natick on April 15, 1942 the daughter of the late Clyde B. Kelton, Sr. and Helen (Yeo) Kelton.
She is survived by her four children; Kelleigh A. Surrette; Howard L. Swindell; Karlene A. Mulcahy and Kristin A. Briddon and her husband Scott. She was the mother of the late Karen Ailleen Strachan and Kathy Allison Swindell. She leaves behind fourteen grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, Chevelle. She is also survived by her two brothers Clyde B. Kelton, Jr and her cherished brother Ralph E. Kelton.
Carlene was a longtime resident of Cochituate and was a graduate of Wayland High School with the Class of 1960. She has been a lifelong member of the Community United Methodist Church.
For several years she was associated at Brockleman’a Market prior to attending nursing school. She graduated from the nursing program at Massachusetts Bay Community College at the age of 52. She began a full and rewarding career as a registered nurse caring for Alzheimer’s patients at the Newton Wellesley Center for Alzheimer’s Care until her retirement.
Carlene enjoyed knitting, reading, doing Sunday crossword puzzles and she loved the Boston Red Sox. She often went to the Symphony with her brother Ralph and was recently introduced to horse racing. She loved and adored her family and will be deeply missed by them and all who knew her.
Visitations will be held on Friday, September 24, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Rt 30), Cochituate Village, Wayland. Her funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 10:00 am followed by her interment in the Kelton-Swindell family lot in Lakeview Cemetery.
For those who desire, gifts in Carlene’s memory may be sent to the Vernon Cancer Center at Newton Wellesley Hospital, 2014 Washington St, Newton MA 02462 to benefit cancer patients, their families and the nursing staff.
