Obituary

Elaine C. (Silva) Cabral, 87, of Eastham, died unexpectedly on Monday, September 13, 2021, at Cape Cod Hospital from injuries she sustained in an automobile accident the previous evening. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her five devoted children.

Born in Gloucester July 8, 1934, she was the eldest child of Frank I. Silva, a fisherman, and Lillian (Mitchell) Silva, a homemaker. The family moved to Provincetown in 1944, where Elaine attended Provincetown High School. It was in Provincetown that she met and married Philip Cabral, who had returned to his hometown following his service in the Navy in Hawaii. They settled in Provincetown, where they raised their five children.

They bought their first house at 42 Bradford Street, across from the Bonnie Doone Restaurant. It was there Elaine became bookkeeper by day and hostess at night. Meanwhile, Philip was bookkeeper at Duarte Motors by day, and fry cook at the Dairy Queen at night. Later they turned their home into the neighborhood grocery store, Cabral's Market, which they ran together for many years. Upon Philip's passing in 1987, Elaine became an indispensable fixture at Seamen's Bank. After an attempt at retirement, she returned to Seamen's until her untimely death.

In 2000, she sold the family home on Franklin Street and built a new home in Eastham, which continued to be the gathering place for the family. She loved to travel, had many hobbies and interests but her family always came first. Thanksgiving and Christmas were among the many feasts held at Elaine's where her home was filled with love and laughter and there was always room for one more.

She leaves a large and loving family including her children and their spouses: Brian (Robert Adamcik) Cabral, Sharon (Adam) Votaw, Alan (Kimberly) Cabral, Amy (Christopher) Lucy, and Susan (Joseph Lema) Cabral: her beloved grandchildren, Sean, Travis, Daniel, Michael, Nora, and Ethan: and adored great grandchildren, Camden, Cooper, Lennox, and Sutton. She also leaves her siblings and their spouses: Philip (Lorraine) Silva, Carol (Francis) Silva and Teresa Morris: many cousins, nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews, as well as many dear friends and acquaintances far and wide. Her smile, warmth and generosity of spirit will be greatly missed and long remembered by all those whose lives she touched.

Family and friends are invited to a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 23rd, at Saint Peter the Apostle Church, 11 Prince Street, Provincetown. Burial will follow at the Cabral family lot in Saint Peter's Cemetery, Provincetown.

If desired, donations in Elaine's name may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
