Obituary

Mildred E. (Saunders) Whipple, 97, of Gales Ferry, died on Friday, September 17, 2021 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Stanley W. Whipple, who died in 2014, Son Jay W. Whipple who died in 2014,and Daughter Susan E. Traphagen who died in 2017.

Mildred was born in New London on July 17. 1924, the daughter of Joseph M. and Lexie M. Saunders.
She grew up in New London and graduated from WMI. She worked at Sheffield Tube and once married was a stay at home mom, raising her six children.

She was a long time member of the Ledyard Senior Center. She loved to travel with her husband to his many Sea Bee Reunions through out the country. She loved to play games with her children and grandchildren and had a smile on her face whether she won or lost. She looked forward to the newspaper everyday so that she could do the puzzles.

Mildred is survived by her children, James P. Whipple of Ledyard, David A. Whipple (Ruth) of Florida, Robert E. Whipple (Jody) of N. Stonington, Lee E. Whipple (Shawn) of Lebanon, a son inlaw Gary Traphagen of Montville, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also surviving Mildred is a sister Gladys Chase (Donald) of Waterford.

Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Tuesday, September 21, at 11:00am in the Gales Ferry Cemetery, Riverside Road, Gales Ferry.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gales Ferry Cemetery Association, or a charity of your choice.
