Obituary

CHICOPEE – Jose I. Maldonado, 79, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, September 16, 2021. He passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Sabana Seca, Puerto Rico on September 18, 1941, a beloved son of the late Gregorio Maldonado and Seferina Santos. He was raised in Puerto Rico, moved to Queens, NY and later to Brooklyn, NY with his family, before moving to Chicopee in 2004 where he lived the remainder of his life. He was employed for many years for the Wonder Bread/Hostess in Holyoke and retired in 2004. During his leisure time, he enjoyed tending to his immaculate yard and spending time in the pool with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by his devoted canine companion, his dog Linda. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Agueda. He also leaves his seven loving children, Luz, Jose, Mary, Joanna, Jose, Jenny, and Alexis; his 14 cherished grandchildren; his 10 cherished great grandchildren; his four dear brothers, Juan, Alfredo, Hector, and Gregorio; his three dear sisters, Luz Mercedes, Lydia, and Awilda; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving son, Jose Luis; his dear brother, Jesus Manuel; and his dear sister, Miriam. His family will receive friends on Thursday morning, September 23, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a Prayer Service at 11 a.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial will follow the Prayer Service at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
