Obituary

Manuel D. Costa, 83, of Lowell, passed away peacefully, Thursday, September 16, 2021, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was the beloved widower of the late Giselda M. (Silva) Costa who passed away in 2012.

A son of the late Manuel and the late Evagelinda Costa, he was born May 16, 1938, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal and was raised and educated in that area. In 1978, he moved to the United States with his family, settling in Lowell.

Manuel loved fishing and gardening, but especially loved spending time with his family and friends and took great pride in cooking for everyone, especially seafood. He also was a talented harmonica player. He enjoyed being a member of the Portuguese American Civic League and participated in many of their functions.

For more than seventeen years he worked as a logistics coordinator for Americraft, retiring in 2000.

His survivors include his children, Manny Costa of Lowell, Fatima Costa of Billerica, Mary Lou Costa of New Bedford, Delminda Cartier and her husband, Dan, of Goffstown, NH, John Costa of Lowell, Maria J. Costa of Lowell, Sandra Schaffer and her husband, Steven, of Dracut, Diana Costa of Lowell, and Kevin Costa and his fiancee, Amie Silva, of Lowell; his nineteen grandchildren; his five great grandchildren; as well as his close friends, Mario and Joe; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also predeceased by his daughter, Sonia Costa who passed away in 2016, as well as several of his siblings.
