Obituary

New Bedford – It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Maria Odete Oliveira. Peacefully, and surrounded by her family, our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, left us to walk with the angels on September 16, 2021 at the age of 77 years.

Maria Odete immigrated to New Bedford, MA in 1980 with her beloved husband and their two children from Figueira Da Foz, Portugal where she was born. Maria Odete’s greatest love and pride was her family. She cherished any time spent with her family, especially when it involved dancing and sharing fond memories of their time spent in Portugal together. A stitcher by trade and a crochetier by interest, Maria Odete was known for her beautiful craftsmanship of traditional linens and crochet lace blankets, tablecloths, and more. She was rarely without a crochet hook in-hand. Maria Odete had an infectious laugh and a vibrant personality. She had a unique ability to make her presence known in a room and to connect with those around her. To know her was to love her.

While Maria Odete remained active in her late years, the sudden loss of her husband, Manuel, was trying. Her family grieves her loss, but they take comfort knowing that Manuel and Maria Odete are together again. They are survived by their son, Francisco Oliveira and his wife Paula, her daughter Ivone Amorim and her husband Florindo, their four grandchildren, Nicole Kloss and her husband James, Tyler Oliveira, Kiara Amorim and Jillian Amorim and three great-grandchildren, Jayden, Giselle and Caroline, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Francisco and Olinda (Pereira) DaSilva and her siblings, Rosa Marcalo, Arnaldo Silva and Manuel DaSilva.

At the family’s request, all attendees are required to wear a mask at all times and social distance during the services. Thank you
