Obituary

On August 18th, 2021, Francis J Paika Jr. took his final flight from this world passing away unexpectedly in Reno, Nevada, where he had resided for the past 18 years. Fran, was born in Worcester, the son of the late Francis & Mary (Culhane) Paika. He lived in Worcester most of his life, moving to Nevada to pursue his passion for flying in his retirement. Fran was an avid pilot, having spent many years flying out of Sterling Airport with a community of friends before moving to Nevada. In his retirement, Fran enjoyed spending time at the Stead Airport in Reno, NV, sharing his passion for aviation and flying his Cessna throughout the western US. He enjoyed many flights over Nevada, CA and the Pacific Northwest. The Annual Reno Air Show was also a favorite event of his.

He worked for many years for Shrewsbury Electric Light Company as the Town Power Engineer, helping to expand the cable and computer operations and working many storms to keep the lights on. He had been a member of St Bernard’s Parish of Worcester. He was a graduate of Assumption Preparatory School, and Northeastern and Clark Universities, having attained Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering and Business Management. Fran was a humble, caring man who will be greatly missed.

He leaves his brother Michael Paika of Shrewsbury, MA, sister-in-law Linda and nephew Christopher. A graveside ceremony will be held at Notre Dame Cemetery. Dirsa-Morin Funeral Home, 298 Grafton St. is assisting the family with arrangements.

While Fran had been vaccinated, he sadly passed away from break through Covid. His family would appreciate any condolences be turned into efforts to convince unvaccinated family and friends to get their shots.
