Obituary

Charles Douglas Rose “Doug”, age 78; of North Charleston, South Carolina, died peacefully Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston, South Carolina. Born on January 5, 1943, in Baltimore, Maryland he was the son of the late Charles and Hazel (Green) Rose and son-in-law of the late Frank and Shirley Clary.

Together over 28 years, he was the beloved husband of Cynthia (Cindy) Clary Rose. He was the cherished father of Dawn Rose Geigan and husband Gene, and Sandy Rose Vance and husband Andy, and stepfather of Justine Burke; beloved grandfather of Kenly Smith and wife Haleigh Smith, Hayley Smith, Jared Vance and wife Carly Vance, and Emily Vance; great grandfather of Seraphina Rose Smith; and dear brother of Carol Rose Earp and husband Ron Earp and the late Ron Rose and wife Lynne Rose. He was survived by many nieces and nephews as well.

Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Doug was known for his quick wit, sense of humor, and light-hearted pranks. He loved to tell stories of his youth growing up on 35th Street in Baltimore. His stories, which included sneaking into Memorial Stadium in the most audacious fashion, climbing stadium light towers to watch Colt’s game, and snagging a ball from Mickey Mantle under the outfield fence, will live on for those who knew and loved him. As a car salesman in the Baltimore area, his fun-loving nature and storytelling endeared him to all who met him. He was an avid sports fan and lifelong Baltimore Colts, Ravens, and Orioles fan, as well as an accomplished athlete with accolades that included bowling a perfect 300. His move to Charleston during his retirement years, brought many happy memories with his wife Cindy and he could often be found “pampering his four-legged fur children.” He enjoyed spending time with family and friends whether in Charleston or Baltimore.
