Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Our souls are weary, our hearts are broken as a family, yet it is our hope and prayer that the miracle and grace of life will be gifted with the passing of our Gene E. Spear, 54, of the Forest Park section of Springfield, who was Called Home on Friday, September 10, 2021. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on July 18, 1967, a beloved son of John and Geraldine “Geri” (Clark) Spear, of Springfield. He was employed for 20 years at Leo’s Glass in Ludlow. Gene was a beloved son, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend to so many. Gene was a musical genius, a composer and a writer of musical compositions with lyrics that inspired from the depths of his soul. His instrument and God-given blessing and talent was his beautiful voice. When he performed, he inspired souls to smile. From the early age of 13, Gene formed and led many local bands including Radio, Radio Days and the Radio Knights. There are no words to express the pain of our loss as a family with the passing of our Gene. He was a good man, a kind and fragile soul. His family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the emergency responders and the kind and supportive staff at Baystate Medical Center. In addition to his parents, he leaves his three treasured daughters, Alexandra G. LaPorte and her husband, Daniel, and twins Amanda G. Spear and Amelia G. Spear; his two cherished grandchildren, Hazel and Maverick; his former wife, Jane Pagnoni Spear; his loving sister, Michelle “Mikki” Lessard and her husband, Barry; his five loving brothers, Greg Spear and his wife, Tanya, Gary Spear and his wife, Donna, Geof Spear and his wife, Maria, David Trudeau and his wife, Jane, and Mark Spear; his loving sister-in-law, Nicole Ward and her husband, Travis; his dear aunt and uncle, Joyce Ogonowski and her husband, Donald; his cousins, Jen Deslauriers and her husband, Mark, and Christy Kovel; his “Good Ole” Auntie, Marge Sabat; and 30+ nieces and nephews, extended family members and numerous friends including his close friends, Leo, Dennis, and Paul. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jacqueline “Jackie” (Carosello) Spear who was Called Home on September 20, 2017; his loving brother, Glen E. Spear who was Called Home on June 9, 1993; and his dear cousin, Tracy Helin. Our family is humbled and honored to present his last offering to humanity. It was Gene’s last wish to offer the gift of his body to help others in need. This act of unconditional love and kindness speaks volumes of his generosity of grace and not only helped strangers in need but also prolonged the life of a family member as well. His family will hold a private remembrance gathering. His arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107.
