Obituary


Stephen Paul Ryan of North Truro passed away Thursday, September 9th at home. He was 63.

Born in Milford, he was the son of the late John J. and Isabel [Shea] Ryan. He graduated from Medway High School and attended Southeastern Massachusetts University in Dartmouth.

He moved to the outer Cape after leaving school and became a commercial fisherman. He served as mate on several boats including the Susan Lynn, Rolex and was a long-term mate on the Sea Wolf. He also was a skilled carpenter.

Steve enjoyed hockey which he played in his younger years. He became interested in photography and was becoming quite adept at it. He also was a crafter, using shells and stones as a medium. He recently started a jewelry business selling his crafts. He also relished long strolls on the beach.

He leaves his brothers, John Ryan and wife Yvette of Richfield, MN, Edward Ryan of Bridgewater, NH, David Ryan and wife Donna of Raymond, NH, Jeff Ryan of Lincoln, NH and Thomas Ryan of Jackson NH. He also leaves sisters Joanne Hall and husband Steven of New Llano, LA, Claire Bigelow of Plainville, MA and Nancy Ryan of Wilbraham, MA, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends on the lower Cape.

A Memorial Service for Steve will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, September 17th at the Gately Funeral Home, 94 Harry Kemp Way, Provincetown. Family and friends are invited to attend.

If desired, memorial donations in Steve’s name may be made to the Center for Coastal Studies, 5 Holway Ave, Provincetown.
