Carol Calligandes, 74 of Manchester, NH, died Saturday, April 8, 2006 following complications from heart surgery in the Catholic Medical Center, Manchester with her family surrounding her. Mrs. Calligandes was born in Boston, MA on October 14, 1931, a daughter of the late Mildred (Conroy) Blong. She was a resident of Manchester since 1989, formerly living in Lindenhurst, NY, Concord, CA, Lexington, MA, Maynard, MA and Cambridge, MA where she grew up. Carol’s last job was at Beacon Communications in Manchester where she was in customer service. She had also worked at the Lindenhurst Memorial Library in the 1980’s as an assistant librarian and also as a dispatcher for the Lindenhurst Auxiliary Police Dept. Carol loved disco roller skating and continued to skate well into her 50’s, traveling with her children, crocheting, reading and also writing humorous stories about her children. She loved animals, especially her cats and enjoyed listening to The Lettermen.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, John W. Calligandes of Manchester, seven children, Susan M. Calligandes of Manchester, Carolanne Grover of Willimantic, CT, John "Jack" P. Calligandes and Michael David Calligandes, both of Manchester, Mary E. Meyer of Derry, NH, Andrew G. Calligandes (Ryan) of Warner, NH, George Robert Kennedy Calligandes of Londonderry, NH, 12 grandchildren; Jennifer, J. J., Sarah R., Jessica, Heather, Sarah K., John, Matthew, Stephen, Andrew, Jacob, Alexa, 8 great-grandchildren; Ashley, Christopher, Randy, William, Emilly, Morgan, Tyler, Joseph and also by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Connie Trant.
Following cremation a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at 10:00AM in the Blessed Sacrament Church, 14 Elm St., Manchester, NH. The interment followed in the Mt. Calvary Mausoleum in Manchester. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Manchester Animal Shelter, 490 Dunbarton Rd., Manchester, NH 03102.
