Obituary

Dr. William S. Anderson, 87, of Anderson, IN passed away on September 3rd, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Dr. Anderson was born on April 10th, 1934 in Beaver, Pennsylvania, the son of Adams and Margaret (Wilson) Anderson. He graduated from Beaver High School in 1952, Duke University in 1956 (B.S., civil engineering), and George Washington University Medical School in Washington D.C., in 1964. Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Anderson served as an officer in the U.S. Navy for 3 years, during which time he travelled the world and committed his life to Christ while aboard the U.S.S. Brinkley Bass. He married the love of his life, Beatrice “Bea” Christine Meckley on April 9th, 1966 in Kane, Pennsylvania and celebrated 55 years of a blessed marriage this past April.
Dr. Anderson served as a family practice physician from 1964 - 2011. He practiced in Kane Pennsylvania prior to serving as a medical missionary in Kenya, Africa from 1967 - 1971. Dr. Anderson and his growing family moved to Anderson in 1971 where he practiced medicine for 40 years, 20 years at St. John’s Hospital where he served as President of Staff and 20 years at Community Hospital Anderson, where he served as Chief of Staff.
He was a member of the American Family Practice Association and the Christian Medical and Dental Society. He served on the Merit Commission and Safety Board of the City of Anderson and participated actively in the Pendleton Reformatory Prison Ministry. He had been a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Muncie, Indiana and most recently attended Chesterfield Community Church of God in Chesterfield, IN. He enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Bible studies throughout every chapter of his life.
He is survived by his wife Beatrice (Bea) Anderson, his four children, Christine (Kent) Cutler of Littleton, Colorado, Julia (Kurt) Billsten of St. Charles, Illinois, Paul (Holly) Anderson of Zionsville, IN, and Mark (Heather) Anderson of Fishers, IN; seven grandchildren, Abigail Cutler, Sydney (Scott) DeVoss, Claudia Billsten, Henry Billsten, Samuel Anderson, Drake Anderson, and Callie Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Margaret “Peggy” Reigle.
The family will be holding a small, private burial ceremony at Memorial Park Cemetery in Anderson to be followed by a Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Chesterfield Community Church of God, 123 Linden Lane, Chesterfield.
Visitation with the family and light refreshments will follow the service.
