Dorothy (Ray) Cox of Mystic, CT, formerly of West Hartford, CT and West Palm Beach, FL died on April 7th. She was 93. She had been a resident of Mystic Manor since August, 2002.
Dorothy was born December 12, 1912 in Hartford, CT, daughter of Howard and Helen Ray. Her husband of 56 years, John Henry Cox, predeceased her in 1992.
Dorothy grew up in Hartford, CT. She and John Henry met at Royal McBee Typewriter where they both worked. They lived in West Hartford for most of their married life before retiring to West Palm Beach, Florida in 1968. After the death of her husband, she moved back to Connecticut and was a resident of Poquonnock Village in Groton. She loved going to the Groton Senior Center and always enjoyed knitting, sewing and other crafts, as well as, yoga and line dancing. She was also known as the “Queen” of the jig saw puzzles.
Dorothy leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Robert Palazzo of Mystic, a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Linda Cox of Charlotte, NC, and four grandchildren, Theresa Palazzo, Thomas Palazzo and his wife Beth, Christopher Cox, Mackenzie Cox, one great-grandson, Colin Palazzo, one sister, Janet Flint and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters; Marion Parlee, Ruth DeNicola, Harriett Urban, and two brothers, Edward Ray and William Ray.
A Memorial Service wil be celebrated at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 15 Pearl Street, Mystic on Saturday, April 22nd at 10am. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.
