Mary T. Luiz, 102, of Dartmouth died April 7, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Guilherme M. and Mary (Trigueiro) Luiz and step-daughter of the late Maria (Maciel) Luiz, she lived in New Bedford before moving to Dartmouth.
She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Dartmouth.
Miss Luiz was formerly employed as a first grade teacher for many years at the Green School, Acushnet Avenue School and Taylor School before becoming principal at Phillips Avenue School until her retirement.
She was a member of the Portuguese Educational Society and the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. In her retirement, she was a tour guide for Luiz Travel Agency.
Survivors include 3 sisters, Leonor M. Luiz and Olivia M. Luiz, both of Dartmouth and Bessie Plouffe of Cranston, RI; many nieces and nephews, greatnieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Isabel M. Quadros-Smith, Greg M. Luiz, Beatriz Lopes and Laura deFreitas.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Monday, April 10th at 11 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, Dartmouth at 12 Noon.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Visiting hours Sunday, April 9th from 4-7 PM.
Interment St. John's Cemetery.
