Obituary

Joseph W. Shepard, 83, of New Bedford, died Thursday, April 6, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.

He was the husband of the late Lena E. (Geoffrion) Shepard.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late John L. and Annie (Bell) Shepard, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.

Mr. Shepard was the proprietor of Joe's Shoe Repair at State and Weld Streets in New Bedford.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater.

Survivors include a son, Arthur J. Shepard of Fairhaven; 3 daughters, Joanne Hardy of New Bedford, Sharon Chace of East Freetown, and Carolyn M. Bordwick of Maine; his companion, Yvette Goldsmith of New Bedford; 3 brothers, Raymond Shepard of California, John Shepard of New Bedford, and Albert Shepard of Georgia; a sister, Winifred Roy of Acushnet; 5 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was the brother of the late Peggy Tocchini, Walter and Lewis Shepard.

Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 11AM-1PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by a Committal Service at 2 PM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
